Reports To: Coordinator: Curriculum & Instruction: Bilingual/ESL

Salary: This is a (40 hours a week) full-time (12 month), 232 day position with a minimum annual salary of $65,259.

Primary Purpose:
Provide professional development, technical support, and instructional coaching to districts, campuses, and classroom teachers of English learners (ELs) regarding the implementation of Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language programs.

Education/Certification:
  • Masters Degree in Education or related field preferred
  • Texas Teacher certification in Bilingual Education required
Experience:
  • Five (5) years of teaching experience in a bilingual and/or ESL classroom required
  • Instructional coaching experience preferred
  • Formal or informal experience mentoring other teachers preferred
  • Leadership position at campus or district level preferred
  • Proven experience in planning and delivering professional development to large groups
  • Proven experience in planning and developing professional development that is research-based on best instructional strategies for English learners
  • Experience with use of data-driven strategies for improving student performance
  • Experience in creating and developing curriculum align to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS)

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
  • Knowledge of the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS)
  • Knowledge of Bilingual/ESL research-based practices
  • Knowledge of bilingual transitional and dual language immersion program models, and English as a Second Language program models
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition and strategies for building academic vocabulary
  • Knowledge of effective techniques for coaching/mentoring teachers
  • Knowledge of current federal and state mandates, including STAAR and EOC
  • Skills in integrating and aligning TEKS, ELPS, and the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR)
  • Familiarity with Response to Intervention and progress monitoring
  • Strong skills in integrating technology into classroom instruction, differentiated instruction, instructional design, and development of curriculum
  • Understanding of current curriculum, instruction, assessment and school system trends
  • Understanding of flexible learning practices for students as well as adult learners
  • Ability to create and present engaging presentations and activities to adult learners
  • Ability to create a classroom conducive to learning
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing in Spanish and English
  • Ability to develop instructional products and online courses to support bilingual and ESL programs
  • Ability to use data-driven strategies for improving student performance
  • Ability to collaborate with team members and across Curriculum and Instruction teams
  • Ability to manage self-directed projects
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and complete work in a timely fashion
  • Ability to maintain emotional control in stressful situations


Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a representative of the ESC Region 13, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the educational community and with the public
  • Understand and meet ESC Region 13 clients' needs in the area of Bilingual/ESL programs, federal and state mandates, assessment, related content areas, and student learning needs
  • Communicate with ESC Region 13 clients in the area of area of Bilingual/ESL programs, federal and state mandates, assessment, related content areas, and student learning needs
  • Provide technical assistance through coaching to classroom teachers (novice and experienced) in districts served by ESC Region 13
  • Deliver products and services in the area of area of Bilingual/ESL programs, assessment, related content areas, and student learning needs
  • Understand and use ESC Region 13 internal systems
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Equipment Used:
  • Computer, peripherals, and related software, listserv technology, printer, photocopier, webinar applications, other equipment such as: Smart Board, Smart Slate (or other interactive board devices), Clickers, iPods/iPads, Chrome books
