Educational Specialist: Instructional Coach (Math 4 - 8)

Salary: This is a full-time, 10-month position (193 days), with a minimum annual salary of $54,287.

Primary Purpose:
Provide professional development, technical assistance, instructional coaching support to districts and campuses regarding the implementation of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

  • Master's Degree in Education or related field preferred
  • Texas Teacher certification in Math 4 - 8

  • Five (5) years classroom teaching experience required;
  • Experience in Math 4- 8
  • Experience in Instructional Coaching preferred
  • Knowledge of research-based instructional coaching models and theories preferred
  • Bil/ESL experience and certification preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership experience at campus or district level including facilitation of professional development, coaching and mentoring, preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
  • Knowledge of the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS)
  • Knowledge of College and Career Readiness Standards
  • Knowledge of TEKS Resource System curriculum
  • Strong skills in integrating and aligning subject-level TEKS and technology TEKS
  • Knowledge of best practice in English as a Second Language (e.g., Sheltered Instruction)
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition and building academic vocabulary
  • Knowledge of current federal and state mandates, including STAAR and EOC
  • Strong background in instructional design, project-based learning and differentiation
  • Familiarity with Response to Intervention and progress monitoring
  • Understanding of current curriculum trends, instruction, technology, assessment and school systems
  • Understanding of flexible learning practices for secondary students as well as adult learners
  • Experience with use of data-driven strategies for improving student performance
  • Ability to work well in team situations and to collaborate across teams (content, ESL, G/T, SpEd)
  • Negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and to complete work in a timely fashion
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Ability to manage self-directed projects
  • Ability to coach and/or mentor teachers
  • Ability to maintain emotional control in stressful situations

  • Serve as a representative of the Center, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the educational community and with the public
  • Understand and meet ESC Region 13 clients' needs in the content areas, assessment, related content areas, and student learning needs
  • Communicate with ESC Region 13 clients in the content areas, assessment, related content areas and student learning needs
  • Deliver ESC Region 13 products and services in the content areas, assessment, related content areas, and student learning needs
  • Understand and use ESC Region 13 internal systems
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Equipment Used:
Computer, peripherals, and related software, listserv and blog technology, printer, photocopier, other equipment such as interactive devices.
