Strong partnerships between schools and families play a critical role in student achievement, well-being, and long-term success. This workshop explores practical strategies for building collaborative, respectful, and productive relationships with parents and caregivers, even when communication becomes challenging or concerns arise.

Participants will examine common barriers to family engagement, including differences in background and experiences, mistrust, trauma, economic stressors, communication challenges, and differing expectations between schools and families. The session encourages a strengths-based approach that recognizes parents and caregivers as valuable partners in supporting student growth and development.

Through discussion, reflection, and practical application, attendees will learn strategies for navigating difficult conversations, fostering trust, and shifting interactions from conflict or frustration toward shared problem-solving. The workshop also highlights responsive communication practices that strengthen engagement and promote meaningful collaboration.
