Program Description (Year Two)

The Dyslexia Center of Austin, in partnership with Region 13 ESC, offers Year Two of the Dyslexia Therapist Training Program, an advanced, in-person structured language training designed for individuals pursuing certification as Certified Academic Language Therapists (CALT), CALT-Candidates (CALT-C), or Texas Licensed Dyslexia Therapists (LDT).

Year Two builds on foundational skills from the introductory year and deepens participants’ clinical knowledge and instructional expertise using Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia, a Tier III intervention developed by Scottish Rite for Children for students ages seven and up. Participants engage in advanced training focused on effective dyslexia intervention, language structure, diagnostic and prescriptive instruction, data interpretation, ethics, and advocacy.

The program is accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC), meets Texas licensure requirements, and aligns with the standards of the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA). Through advanced coursework, seminars, supervised practice, and continued implementation of Take Flight, participants strengthen the skills needed to deliver high-quality dyslexia services and progress toward certification and licensure.

Who Should Apply (Year Two)

Year Two is designed for individuals who have successfully completed Year One of the Dyslexia Therapist Training Program and are ready to continue advanced training toward certification and licensure. This year is ideal for:

  • Educators currently serving as dyslexia interventionists or therapists

  • Professionals continuing the pathway toward CALT, CALT-C, or Texas LDT credentials

  • Individuals who are actively implementing Take Flight and are prepared to continue teaching required student groups

  • Participants who can commit to an in-person advanced summer course, four seminars, demonstration lessons, and ongoing practicum requirements

  • Educators interested in graduate credit options through MSU Texas or King’s College

This training is best suited for participants who want to deepen their clinical expertise, strengthen diagnostic teaching practices, and move confidently toward professional certification in structured literacy and dyslexia intervention.
