Explore effective strategies to incorporate writing activities across all curriculum areas, fostering students' writing development while deepening their understanding of content in subjects like science, math, and social studies. Special attention will be given to supporting Kindergarten through 2nd grade students in developing short constructed responses that align with instructional goals and build academic language.
In this course, participants will experience:
- The research and “why” behind integrating writing into all content areas
- Practical opportunities to embed writing into science, math, and social studies instruction
- The benefits of low-stakes writing activities to promote thinking, engagement, and content retention
- Strategies for incorporating meaningful reader’s responses across texts and subjects
- Techniques for supporting young learners in developing and organizing short constructed responses
- Participants will leave with actionable ideas and tools to make writing a powerful, everyday learning tool across the curriculum.
