This training will be the first of 4 hybrid trainings focused on federal grant and state requirements for Title I, Part A, Parent and Family Engagement (PFE). This workshop series will equip educational organizations, school leaders, and district personnel with the necessary tools and knowledge to engage parents and families effectively in the education process. Through a comprehensive overview of federal guidelines and interactive discussions, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the importance and benefits of parent and family engagement and the critical factors and guiding principles that drive successful partnerships. From identifying PFE requirements and allowable uses of Title I funds to exploring resources and common monitoring trends, this workshop series will provide practical strategies for enhancing parent and family involvement at both the district and school levels. Join us for this comprehensive workshop series to learn how to strengthen partnerships with parents and families to benefit student success under ESSA. You will leave with a deeper understanding of PFE and practical strategies to implement at your district and school.

Course objectives:

  1. Identify the importance and benefits of PFE under ESSA.
  2. Recognize critical factors and guiding principles for effective PFE.
  3. Define parent and family engagement and its role under ESSA.
  4. Understand district and school-level PFE requirements and allowable Title I funds use.
  5. Explain the distribution and accessibility requirements for PFE.
  6. Discuss and explore resources focused on PFE.

Consider being prepared to participate in the discussion of the following questions:

  • Why is PFE important?
  • What are the benefits of PFE?
  • What is the goal of educational organizations (ESCs, LEAs, district support centers, schools, etc.)?
  • How does PFE affect the achievement of the goals?
  • Can we influence parent and family involvement in our schools?
  • How can we improve parent and family involvement, especially in middle and high school?

Who should attend:

Recommendation for who should attend from your LEA: We recommend you have a team attendance of the key stakeholders involved in Parent and Family Engagement at both your LEA/district level and your campus levels. This could include your federal programs staff, central office PFE staff, principals, campus-level PFE Staff, parent liaisons, truancy coordinators, counselors, and/or a superintendent responsible for approving and authorizing your PFE policies and procedures.
