Behavior Event Inventories
- One day
- $3,000 - $5,000
Purpose
The goal of the Behavior Event Interview (BEI) process is to capture and understand in detail how principals, assistant principals, and teacher leaders perform various aspects of their work to assess readiness for the work of a turnaround principal or teacher leader and to allow for individualized supports of future leaders. (Public Impact).
Process
BEIs utilize a specialized interview technique wherein candidates are asked to describe their detailed actions and thinking in past work events. Research indicates that traditional interview techniques rarely uncover competencies that predict future performance differences. Too often, candidates speak in generalities about what they think they should or would do, not about what they actually do at work. Fortunately, it is possible to learn what people actually do through the BEI process, and knowing what candidates have done to achieve success at work is one of the strongest predictors of how they will seek success in the future.
- The process provides candidates the opportunity to reflect and articulate evidence of competencies critical to leading change.
- District leadership may use the results of the BEI process to select leaders (ESF 1).
- BEI data may be used to inform targeted professional development opportunities (ESF 1).
Service includes on-site interviews of district personnel or candidates by a trained team of interviewers and a report highlighting interviewee strengths and areas for growth.
This service is also available for district human resources departments so they can conduct their own interviews.
