This workshop focuses on working with and supporting students with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (IDD) in schools and how to set them up for success once they age out of school and enter the community as adults. The workshop will give an overview of IDD services offered through the Local Mental Health Authorities (LMHAs) and the importance of identifying IDD youth for assessment at a young age. The workshop will also briefly touch on techniques for working with these students in school. 1. Understand the challenges faced by students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) in school and the impact on their success.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the various IDD services available through Local Mental Health Authorities (LMHAs) and the importance of early assessment and intervention.
- Gain practical techniques for effectively working with students with IDD in the school environment.
- Learn strategies for setting up students with IDD for success in transitioning to adulthood and the community.
- Develop a deeper understanding of the needs and support systems required for students with IDD to thrive.
